Frieda Hempel (Leipzig, 26.06.1885 - Berlijn, 07.10.1955): Duitse coloratuursopraan.

In 1955 verscheen haar autobiografie: "Mein Leben dem Gesang".
Ze maakte opnamen voor Odeon, HMV, Victor, Polydor en Edison.
Prachtige stem!

  1. Thank you so much for posting this. She had a beautiful voice and was a superb musician. Her memoirs appeared in English as "My Golden Age of Singing", and were not ghost-written! That informative and interesting book is still available via Amazon. Well, I've been a Hempel-groupie for many years.
A brief request: do you have recordings by Maria Ivogun (accents, umlauts, etc. are a problem for me). She recorded an aria from Mozart's "Il re pastore" with the great violinist Josef Wolfsthal accompanying her. It appeared on Preiser LV 69 (Ivogun "iii") but wasn't republished on the Preiser cd. I found it somewhere on the web, but can't remember where.
Best regards from over here, and - again - much thanks for your efforts,
    David Mendes

    1. Thanks for your reaction, David! I'll take a look at Amazon for the book. There is more Hempel to come!
I posted earlier a Brunswick recording from Maria Ivogün (http://satyr78opera.blogspot.de/2013/04/maria-ivogun-brunswick-1922-1924.html), Alas I don't have the Mozart recording with Wolfsthal, but I have one other recording from Ivogün which I'll post in the future.
